Consultant Neurologist

Dr. Guy Leschziner is a distinguished Consultant Neurologist with a diverse and impactful career in the field. Serving at London Bridge Hospital, the Cromwell Hospital, and the Department of Neurology and Sleep Disorders Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, he holds the crucial position of Clinical Lead for the Sleep Disorders Centre at Guy’s Hospital, overseeing one of Europe’s largest sleep units. Simultaneously, Dr. Leschziner contributes as a Reader in Neurology at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London.

With a focus on comprehensive patient care, Dr. Leschziner conducts general neurology clinics and specialized clinics dedicated to sleep disorders and epilepsy. His academic journey began at Magdalen College, Oxford, and Imperial College at St Mary’s, culminating in a PhD in the genetics of epilepsy and drug management. Following extensive medical training, he completed neurological training at renowned institutions, including Guy’s and St Thomas’, Charing Cross Hospital, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. In 2010, after a fellowship in epilepsy and sleep medicine, Dr. Leschziner joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a consultant, solidifying his commitment to advancing neurological care.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Leschziner is an avid researcher, delving into areas such as narcolepsy, epilepsy, sleepwalking, Kleine-Levin syndrome, and restless legs syndrome. He plays a pivotal role as a principal investigator or collaborator in numerous multi-centre studies, exploring critical aspects of seizures, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, narcolepsy, non-REM parasomnias, REM sleep behavior disorder, and insomnia.

Dr. Leschziner is equally passionate about public education, showcasing his expertise through various mediums. He has presented a compelling three-part series, "Mysteries of Sleep," on BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service. Additionally, he has shared insights on "The Secrets of Sleep" in a documentary for Channel 4 Television. His recently published book, "The Nocturnal Brain: Nightmares, Neuroscience and the Secret World of Sleep," offers a captivating exploration into the intricate world of sleep, further solidifying Dr. Leschziner's commitment to advancing knowledge and understanding in the broader community.
