About the course

CPD: equivalent to 6 hours CPD

This one-day, online course will give clinicians the basic knowledge and skills required to feel confident in beginning to practice in a perinatal mental health setting.

Perinatal mental health services have been expanding nationally and working in this area can require a unique set of knowledge and skills for clinicians to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care.

This interesting and rewarding field of mental health has attracted many mental health nurses, occupational therapists, nursery nurses, social workers, and psychologists who have typically come from different backgrounds within mental health.

Learning objectives

Be able to identify a woman experiencing a perinatal mental health problem.	Be able to assess a woman experiencing a mental health problem in the perinatal period as appropriate to their specialty	Have a greater knowledge of resources available for women with perinatal mental health problems
Understand care pathways for women with mental health problems in the perinatal period and who to refer where.	Have an understanding of approaches to treatment of mental health problems in the perinatal period.	Be able to make a risk assessment of women with mental health problems in the perinatal period.
