Maudsley Debrief Skills for Mental Health Simulation – October 19/20
Mental healthcareCourse information
About the course

Simulation Based Education (SBE) has a recognised potential to enhance training, support workforce development and promote recruitment and retention in psychiatry and mental health. Many mental health trusts across the country engage with this innovative training modality. Debriefing skills are essential to realise SBE full potential.
This course provides an overview of debriefing skills applied to simulation-based education in mental health. It explores key interplay of clinical skills in mental health and debrief practice and provides an opportunity to enhance skills and confidence in using structured debrief models and navigate their key challenges. The course uses a combination of interactive group sessions, case studies, practical examples, workshop activities, demonstrations and small group practice. It draws from an established practice in facilitating simulation training across a range of multi professional groups and a variety of clinical issues, including recent adaptation to digital training delivery, and in supporting faculty development programmes. The course is facilitated by experienced simulation educators from Maudsley Simulation faculty.
In line with HEE London’s interest in supporting Mental Health trusts to develop their practice and capacity around SBE, this course is open to all involved in delivering SBE in these organisations, or wanting to develop their skills to facilitate SBE in Mental Health.
Target Audience
This course is free for any clinician, facilitator or other involved with SBE in Mental Health Trusts in London, as part of HEE London faculty development programme.
If you are interested in the practical development of SBE programme for mental health, there is a separate course you may want to consider attending: the Maudsley Mental Health Simulation Development Toolkit – one-day course.
