About the course

This one-day course for health and social care professionals examines mental health issues affecting women in pregnancy or as new mothers.

The course uses simulated scenarios to consider perinatal mental conditions, including antenatal and postnatal depression, postpartum psychosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorder and substance misuse.

Please note, the course is only available to health professionals working in South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.

The course addresses the challenges faced when seeing such patients in different environments including the emergency department, the obstetric ward, the GP surgery or community mental health team, and at home.

Specific debrief models will be used to allow you to learn positively and constructively from the experience. It aims to get different professionals working together to further their understanding of the challenges faced in these situations and build confidence in dealing with them.

Research

Let our team complete a full Training Needs Analysis for a department, directorate, or the whole hospital! We can work to complete this ourselves or work collaboratively with your own staff. Our standard outcome measures assess learner progress and produce a full report looking at wider impact of training using a range of tested assessment methodologies.
