About the course

trauma course

We invite all SLaM nursing and inpatient staff to join us in this exciting series of pilot courses using the latest Virtual Reality (VR) and Cross Reality (XR) technology. Your participation will help to inform the development of new experiential training for mental health nurses using XR technology. Our vision is of compassionate nurse-led clinical teams who feel skilled, empowered and connected to reduce the use of restrictive practices and improve the experience and outcomes of service users. Through creating a VR training package in mental health we will be breaking new ground in the field of mental health education. The range of technologies that will feature in this work include 360 degree videos, use of VR headsets to access the content and the use of smartphone applications to bring immersive training material into clinical and educational environments.

This course will be run via Zoom, however participants will be using the Virti App to run VR sessions throughout the course of the day. Upon registration, participants will be sent all necessary account information and links.

The fusion of Education and the Health Service is extremely exciting and now indeed essential; I am thrilled that St Mary’s is at the forefront of this. I am truly invigorated to disseminate many nuggets of wisdom and tangible strategies gained yesterday to my entire school community.
