About the course

This is a one-day online simulation course aimed at mental health practitioners who have recently started working in CAMHS, to include mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and other multidisciplinary team members. It focuses on the assessment and management of young people in the community and crisis/liaison setting.
Participants will be involved in a series of interactive simulated scenarios using specially trained actors. Following each scenario, the facilitators lead a group debrief to support participants to reflect on the scenario and to collectively learn from the experience.

- The differences between working with children rather than adults
- Managing issues centred around confidentiality and consent in children and young people
- Communicating appropriately with children and young people of differing ages and developmental levels
- Working with families and carers in difficult circumstances
- Engaging with young people who are in crisis
- The subtle skills of communicating with children and young people, including reading and responding to subtle and overt nuances in the room
- Understanding the perspective of children/young people and families and the patient experience
