About the course

A course designed to help medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals research, manage and record complex capacity assessments within the patient care environment.

Understanding a patient's mental capacity is a key aspect of the patient-medical professional's relationship, and a mental capacity assessment helps determine whether an individual can safely make specific decisions about their welfare.

Supported by the latest research in the field, and taught by legal and psychiatric experts, the course teaches advanced skills and is run in partnership with Mental Health and Justice.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify complex factors associated with capacity assessments
  2. Evaluate complex capacity assessments using legal criteria (the Mental Capacity Act)
  3. Discuss strategies used to resolve complex capacity cases
  4. Record satisfactory capacity assessments in complex cases

The course itself was excellent. The course information could have been communicated better however, it was not specified where the course would be and when I emailed the admin a couple of months prior to it I was informed it was online which wasnt the case. I also didnt receive the pre course materials (and also did not when I emailed your admin team about this and still havent.)
