About Maudsley Learning
Our mission is to produce the highest quality mental health and wellbeing education and training products.
We design and deliver courses to meet the continuing professional development needs of individual professionals in the healthcare workforce, but also to many others including colleagues in social services, policing, schools and in the private sector.
We also design and deliver programs to organisations and companies to meet their wider multi-professional needs focusing on enhancing safety or quality. We have an excellent record of success delivering commissioned training nationally and are proud to have nurtured Maudsley Simulation into BMJ national Education Team of the Year 2018!
Building positive relationships with our customers is supremely important to us, whether individuals booking one course or organisations commissioning a wider program of work.
We can deliver the best quality learning experiences in both traditional and innovative educational modalities thanks to our expertise and agility. Our access to a range of subject matter expertise is second to none via the global centres of excellence in South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and our university partners, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.

Meet the team

Sean Cross
Managing Director

Sean is a consultant liaison psychiatrist in SLaM and works clinically at King’s College Hospital. He is Clinical Director for King’s Health Partners’ Mind and Body programme to improve mental and physical healthcare integration.
He founded the nationally award winning Maudsley Simulation with James and is now the Managing Director of Maudsley Learning.
He is passionate about delivering high quality education and training to improve the care and experience of service users. He is a past winner of the RCPsych’s Trainer of the Year award and proud to be leading our new venture!

Camilla Tooley
Clinical Educator

Camilla works as a Clinical Educator with the team and as a Relationship Counsellor. She Initially trained as a Doctor, with an additional Degree in Experimental Psychology and experience in Psychiatry training. Taking Diploma’s in both Medical Education and Relationship Counselling, she also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Working with Children, Families and Young People from the Tavistock, is a trained Coach within the trust and has taken experience this year working in a London Perinatal Psychotherapy team. She is completing clinical hours of a Family Counselling training and has commenced training in Psychosexual Psychotherapy.
Camilla has a particular interest in courses that focus on relational and family dynamics, working in the perinatal period, working with children and young people, managing challenging conversations- including those around domestic violence and sexual health and fostering wellbeing.

James Pathan

James is the head of operations at Maudsley Learning and the service lead for Maudsley Simulation. James has over 10 years’ in-depth experience managing mental health education delivery and research teams across the health system and NHS. Recently, working with primary care colleagues through LCNs, CCGs, and CEPNs in south London to expand the reach of mental health simulation based education, has been a particular area of interest and success. James is published in the area of mental health simulation education. James is also an AGILE management coach and a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM).

Jose heads the sales department for Maudsley Learning and is a key contact especially for our organisational clients. He will be very happy to speak with you about a range of issues! He has years of experience working with various clients from all sectors and has a particular interest in ensuring the service and product offering is delivered to our clients’ specification.

Hannah works on a range of educational research and delivery projects bringing strong organisational and research methods/skills. She recently completed a Masters in Organisational Psychology & Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and also completed her undergrad in psychology and criminology at the University of Bedfordshire. Hannah has worked in the private and public sector and is passionate about mental health in the workplace.

Sandra is a registered mental health and general nurse with over 30 years’ experience, working in a variety of mental health and primary care settings in London and overseas.
She has a particular interest in physical and mental healthcare interface for older adults.

Chris Attoe
Research and development lead

Chris leads on Maudsley Learning’s quality assurance, and research and evaluation workstreams, working with a team of researchers and each of our course leads and facilitators to ensure that our training is of the highest possible quality, is routinely assessed using data, and is disseminated to a wider audience. Chris has clinical, management, and research experience in the NHS and has published widely in the field of mental health education. Currently completing a Professional Doctorate in Occupational Health Psychology, Chris’s research interests relate to promoting wellbeing in healthcare professionals.

Anita Bignell

Anita is a simulation trainer and registered mental health nurse with 12 years’ post-qualification experience, working in acute inpatient, specialist Bipolar services and assessment and liaison in both inpatient and community settings in London.
She has a particular interest in: Improving access to MH care minority groups, Bipolar Disorder, acute psychiatry, suicide prevention, self-harm, personality disorders, trauma and General Practise interface working.

Lloyd is a simulation tutor and trainer with the “Promoting Safe & Therapeutic Service” team. He has an interest in works focusing on issues relating to the prevention and management of violence and aggression.

Vanessa has worked with Maudsley Learning and Maudsley Simulation for 5 years. In her spare time she is interested in business and is currently completing a business degree in addition to her full time role.

Kiran has been working as a Simulation Technician with the team for the past 5 years. She brings an array of technical skills to the team, including video editing and wireless streaming, having previously worked in television production. Kiran is passionate about incorporating new technologies to enhance the delivery of courses, and the learning experience for participants.

Dimeji is responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans for Maudsley Learning to deliver on our vision of being the lead provider of education and training programmes in mental health and well-being. He has over 10 years of marketing experience. Having successfully led on previous branding projects within the NHS, he will seek to develop our brand with vigour and create global awareness!

Greg Shields
Masterclass Lead

Greg is a consultant liaison psychiatrist with considerable experience in medical education, most recently as Education Projects Lead for the World Psychiatric Association where he successfully developed a world-first online Graduate Diploma of International Psychiatry.
He has an interest in curriculum development and evaluation, and in online learning in psychiatry.
