About the course

This course is designed for anyone who may encounter individuals in distress or experiencing a mental health condition—whether in the workplace, education, healthcare settings, or public spaces. You don’t need to be a clinical professional to make a difference. Just like emergency first aid, there are simple, effective techniques that can empower you to provide immediate support, reassurance, and signpost further help.

Using highly interactive and practice-focused teaching, this eLearning course helps learners develop a general understanding of mental health and illness, alongside practical skills to confidently respond to people in difficulty.

It is particularly suited for primary care nurses, acute hospital nurses, allied health professionals, and any non-mental health professionals seeking to deliver more holistic, person-centred care.

💡 Optional live, simulation-based training sessions are available to complement the eLearning – perfect for those looking to put their new knowledge into practice.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply basic psychological techniques to support individuals in acute distress.
