About the course

This one-day Mental health awareness and wellbeing training for leaders course is an interactive workshop designed to develop leaders’ knowledge, skills and confidence in recognising and responding to mental health difficulties, poor wellbeing and distress within the workplace.

Using a range of engaging learning methods, including case studies, videos, reflective discussions, group activities and practical exercises, participants will explore the role leaders can play in supporting mental health and wellbeing and creating a positive and psychologically safe team culture.

The course explores effective communication skills and approaches to supportive conversations about mental health and wellbeing, including active listening, validation and de-escalation techniques. Participants will consider how to recognise when someone may be struggling, understand appropriate boundaries and confidentiality, identify suitable sources of support and recognise when concerns may need to be escalated.

Participants will also explore the relationship between physical and mental health and consider how leadership behaviours, workplace culture, stigma, cultural differences and health inequalities can influence individual wellbeing and team effectiveness.

By the end of the course, participants will have greater confidence in recognising mental health and wellbeing concerns, having supportive conversations, providing appropriate support and responding effectively when further intervention may be required.
