About the course

This one-day, online course will provide a strong foundation for you to understand the difficulties associated with eating disorders and how to work with people affected by them.

Designed and delivered by expert clinicians, it will give you an in-depth understanding of recognition and assessment. You will learn where and when to signpost to specialist services, and how to make appropriate referrals. You will also learn how to manage risk effectively and safely. The course will also provide a brief introduction to motivational interviewing, which will allow you to better assess risk and motivate clients to seek help.

At the end of the day you will participate in a case study presentation in order to consolidate the knowledge and skills you have learnt throughout the day. Eating disorders are risky diagnoses but can be managed effectively with the right tools.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any other psychiatric condition. They affect 1.2 million people in the UK and those numbers continue to rise. We often shy away from the complexity that eating disorders present. This is often because we are unsure how to understand the different eating disorders, how to manage risk, and where to signpost for specialist help.
