Dr Kirsten Howson

Faculty and Simulation Clinical Lead – Maudsley Learning

Kirsten is the Faculty and Simulation Clinical Lead, leading the faculty in the development, design, and delivery of mental health education, using a variety of teaching techniques, including high-fidelity simulation training. She has extensive experience working within clinical education and has a particular passion for simulation, having previously worked as a Medical Education Fellow at Maudsley Learning, in addition to Specialist Education Lead within the private sector.

With a background as a psychiatry doctor, Kirsten has a breadth of clinical experience, spanning liaison psychiatry, inpatient services, and community mental health across general adult, older adult, child and adolescent, and rehabilitation psychiatry, equipping her with a broad and practical foundation in patient-centred care.

Kirsten is passionate about promoting psychologically safe and supportive learning environments for both participants and facilitators. As a Co-Chair for the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) Mental Health Simulation Special Interest Group and an ASPiH Portal Pilot, Kirsten is passionate about sharing good practice within the simulation community. She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
