Dr Luis Alameda

Senior Clinical Lecturer, King’s College London | Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Luis Alameda is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Psychosis Studies at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, currently based at the National Psychosis Unit.

He studied at the Universities of Sevilla, Lund, and Florence before completing his psychiatry and psychotherapy training at Lausanne University Hospital. From 2017 to 2022, Dr Alameda worked at South London and Maudsley as a Consultant Psychiatrist while undertaking his PhD in the Department of Psychosis Studies. His doctoral research explored child abuse, epigenetics, and psychological mechanisms in first episode psychosis, earning him both the King’s Outstanding Thesis Prize and Psychosis Studies PhD of the Year Award in 2022.

Between 2022 and 2024, he led the Treatment and Early Intervention in Psychosis Program (TIPP) in Lausanne, while conducting postdoctoral research into clinical high-risk psychosis populations and data-driven approaches to care.

Dr Alameda’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which trauma contributes to psychosis and poor outcomes, with a strong interest in service development—particularly early intervention in psychosis. His contributions have been recognised internationally, with awards including the 2019 Research Prize from the European Psychiatric Association and Young Investigator Awards from both the Swiss Society of Biological Psychiatry and the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health.
