Mental health simulation continues to rise in prominence within medical education, a trend highlighted at this year’s National Psychiatry Conference in France. In a landmark partnership, leading French clinicians collaborated with Maudsley Learning to promote state-of-the-art training methodologies. Spearheaded by Drs. Marie-Aude Piot, Adrien Gras, and Grégoire Billon, the team organised a groundbreaking simulation debriefing training day, supported by the National College of University Psychiatrists (CNUP) under the guidance of its president, Prof. Pierre Vidailhet.
At the heart of this event was Maudsley Learning’s psychologically informed debriefing approach, a cutting-edge framework tailored to empower mental health clinicians in their roles as educators. This methodology integrates principles of mentalising, leveraging the unique interpersonal skills of mental health professionals to create reflective and impactful learning environments. Beyond enhancing teaching practices, it also drives forward the evolution of Simulation-Based Education (SBE) in psychiatry.
The training day was met with enthusiasm from participants, who recognised its potential to transform educational strategies in the field. Feedback highlighted the approach’s practicality and innovation, as well as its ability to address the complexities of psychiatric education effectively. This success has laid the foundation for the initiative to become an annual event, aligned with the CNUP’s strategic goal of fostering faculty development through mental health simulation.
By embedding this training into its core offerings, the CNUP aims to establish simulation-based education as a cornerstone of professional growth in psychiatry. This initiative not only strengthens the skills of educators but also elevates standards of mental health care delivery, ensuring continuous improvement and excellence across the profession.
Together, we are setting new benchmarks for simulation-based learning, paving the way for a brighter future in mental health education and care.
