Malik Gul
Convenor of the Ethnicity and Mental Health Improvement Project (EMHIP).
Malik is currently convening the Ethnicity and Mental Health Improvement Project (EMHIP), a collaborative initiative with NHS South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust. The project aims to reduce ethnic disparities in mental health services by addressing issues in access, experience, and outcomes. It stems from the Wandsworth Community Empowerment Network, which focuses on tackling structural inequalities and systemic racism that perpetuate discrimination, poverty, and hardship. The project shifts power and resources from public institutions to community networks, empowering local groups to lead early intervention, prevention, and change within their own communities.
In addition to his work on EMHIP, Malik is pursuing postgraduate studies at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Imperial College London. His research focuses on Social Network Analysis and its potential to foster relationships and connectivity, improving the operationalisation of rights-based, co-produced healthcare.
