Professor Katie Pavoni

Professor of Paramedic Education, City St George's University of London

Professor Katie Pavoni is a Professor of Paramedic Education and Programme Director for the BSc in Paramedic Science at City St George's, University of London. She is also the department pastoral lead and launched the UK's first Student Paramedic Blue Light Champion scheme. In addition, she serves as Academic Director of Student Wellbeing for the School of Health and Medical Sciences. Alongside her academic role, Katie works clinically as a Paramedic and Mental Health Practitioner with South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Katie is a member of the College of Paramedics' Mental Health & Wellbeing Steering Group and co-academic lead for the Future Workforce Mental Health Project. Through this work, she has co-designed a national mental health and wellbeing curriculum for paramedics, a national wellbeing support tool, and education resources for mentors and preceptors supporting early career paramedics. In 2023, she was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of her contribution to paramedic mental health education.

Previously, Katie worked with the British Red Cross and developed national and international prehospital mental health education programmes. She also served as National Lead Safeguarding Officer for Samaritans and is currently a trustee of the Blue Light Card Foundation.

Katie holds an MSc in Advanced Practice (Mental Health) and is currently undertaking a PhD in Mental Health Research. She is passionate about challenging stigma and improving the mental health and wellbeing of both patients and healthcare professionals.
