Frequently asked questions
How do I train to be a DBT therapist?
APT Accreditation is one way to become a DBT therapist. At levels 1-3 you’ll become acquainted with DBT, and by levels 4 and 5 you can consider yourself a ‘DBT therapist’, assuming you have prior professional qualifications. If you have no prior experience, you’ll need more general qualifications in a subject like psychiatry first before specialising in this area. Please note, this course will not give you APT Accreditation.
How long does it take to train in DBT?
The Maudsley Learning online DBT training course is spread over 2 days, with 2 sessions at 8 hours each. If you are wanting to go down the APT Accreditation route it will take longer. APT courses range from 3 to 10 days or equivalent of learning.
Can I learn DBT online?
With Maudsley Learning you can take part in DBT training online via Zoom. The course will educate you on the basics of DBT, and incorporates a range of teaching styles including role play in a virtual setting.
