About the course

This course aims to address gaps in training for professionals across a wide range of sectors in Southeast London. It is designed for individuals involved in supporting positive mental health outcomes for the population, as well as managing long-term conditions and promoting wellbeing. The first two learning objectives can be attained through self-directed eLearning modules, where participants develop cultural competency and reflect on their personal and professional biases in a safe online environment. The latter three objectives are achieved in a trainer-led facilitated workshop, where learners are guided to apply these skills to real-life scenarios. Participants have the option to complete the self-directed eLearning only or to progress to the trainer-led facilitated workshop.

Trainees must ensure that the e-learning modules have been completed before attending the associated workshop

Learning objectives

By the conclusion of this course, participants will:

• Heighten their awareness of cultural diversity, language barriers, biases, and the stigma surrounding mental health among individuals seeking support for long-term conditions.

• Cultivate reflective practices to comprehend their own biases and personal characteristics, understanding how these factors may impact communication and relationship-building with service users.

• Enhance confidence and proficiency in fostering trust, psychological safety, and trauma-informed service delivery to aid individuals with long-term conditions.

• Strengthen confidence and skills in employing effective communication strategies to support individuals with long-term conditions.

• Expand their knowledge of appropriate pathways and resources for individuals seeking support for long-term conditions, enabling better guidance and signposting.
