About the course

This comprehensive two-day course offers an interactive learning experience, featuring a full day of expert-led teaching followed by a dedicated second day focusing on simulation exercises. The simulations cover a range of scenarios, providing practical application of motivational interviewing techniques within health-related conversations concerning complex health issues. Attendance on both days is mandatory to meet the course requirements and obtain certification. Please be aware that booking for the simulation day needs to be done separately.

Tailored specifically for professionals involved in enhancing positive mental health outcomes within the Southeast London community, this course addresses gaps in both knowledge and practical application of Motivational Interviewing. It underscores the importance of effective communication techniques and motivational strategies crucial for managing long-term conditions. Participants will acquire a thorough understanding of Motivational Interviewing principles, its effectiveness, and the identification of co-morbid presentations. These objectives are accomplished through a trainer-led facilitated workshop and a simulation day, allowing learners to apply acquired skills to real-world scenarios encountered in their professional practice.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, participants will have achieved the following objectives:

    • Identify the fundamental principles of motivational interviewing.
    • Understand the application of techniques utilized in motivational interviewing and their respective functions.
