About the symposium

We are very happy to invite you to the first SUN Project Symposium on Wednesday 19th July 2023 at the ORTUS Conferencing and Events Venue, Denmark Hill, South London, SE5 8SN. Service User Networks (SUN) Projects are open-access peer groups that offer support for patients in crisis. Groups provide a safe and non-judgemental space for members to give and receive support from other SUN members who may be going through similar struggles. Fellow members can offer help with emotional, relational, social & practical difficulties. Each group is led by two mental health professionals (clinicians and peer support workers) who use Therapeutic Community principles and the Appraisal Based Coping model to help members prevent crises and get the help they need.

SUN Projects are becoming increasingly popular in Mental Health Trusts, with over a dozen SUN Projects now commissioned across the country. This event, the world’s first SUN symposium, will include talks and poster presentations from leading experts in the field of SUN Projects since their inception, including clinicians, researchers and experts by experience. In addition, there will be opportunities for networking and sharing of real-world experiences with practitioners from different clinical services.

You are also invited to contribute a poster to the event. The deadline for submissions is 30th May. More details of the event will be released in due course.

This event is jointly organised by Maudsley Learning, King’s College London University and Croydon and Lewisham Personality Disorder Services at South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust.
