Robin Murray is a Professor of Psychiatric Research at the Institute of Psychiatry, London. He was among the first to propose that schizophrenia has a neurodevelopmental aspect, and he has contributed to understanding how environmental factors like obstetric events, drug abuse, and social adversity heighten the risk of psychosis. He is the most frequently cited psychosis researcher outside the USA, having supervised 80 PhDs and 12 MD Theses, with 40 of his students becoming full professors. In 2010, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, and in 2011, he was knighted.
