About the symposium

This one-day symposium offers the latest clinical and research developments in the management of affective disorders, including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. Delivered by world-leading experts from the Maudsley Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (King’s College London), the event is designed to support mental health professionals working with individuals affected by mood disorders.

The programme features evidence-based updates, emerging treatments, and practical approaches that balance both medical and non-medical models of care. With a strong emphasis on recovery and innovation, the symposium will explore the use of neuromodulation, psychedelic therapies, personalised interventions, and more—helping clinicians translate research into improved clinical outcomes.

Topics to be discussed
  • Understanding and managing treatment-resistant depression

  • Suicide risk in mood disorders: clinical strategies and emerging insights

  • Non-invasive brain stimulation: the role of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)

  • Ketamine as a treatment for difficult-to-treat depression

  • Psychedelic treatments and their role in managing mood disorders

  • The intersection of mood disorders and addiction

  • Innovative treatment approaches for bipolar disorder

  • Neurocognitive models and the future of personalised care in affective disorders
