About the course

A course designed to help medical, nursing, other healthcare and social work professionals research, manage and record complex capacity assessments within the patient care environment.

Understanding a patient's mental capacity is a key aspect of the patient-medical professional's relationship, and a mental capacity assessment helps determine whether an individual can safely make specific decisions about their welfare.

Supported by the latest research in the field, and taught by legal and psychiatric experts, the course teaches advanced skills and is run by the originators of the capacity guide

  1. Identify complex factors associated with capacity assessments
  2. Evaluate complex capacity assessments using legal criteria (the Mental Capacity Act)
