About the course

This two-day course uses role playing, video and motivational interviewing techniques to explore ways patients in primary care settings can best respond to health change conversations.

This course is open to all staff completing health checks in primary care in south east or south west London and is funded by a grant from Health Education England.

Please note, you need to have completed day one to join day two.

Course programme

Day One: Interactive session looking at how to have effective health change conversation using the skills from motivational interviewing. Overview of barriers to change amongst a cross section of patients. There will be a series of videos and remote teaching looking at some basic skills to start the conversations about making health changes and wellbeing. There will be a particular focus on those patients who might also have underlying mental health conditions.

Day Two: There will also be a virtual simulation day to try out and help embed new knowledge and skills with a series of simulated real-life scenarios using actors as simulated patients. There will be a structured debrief to help draw out the skills learn from day one.

Research

Let our team complete a full Training Needs Analysis for a department, directorate, or the whole hospital! We can work to complete this ourselves or work collaboratively with your own staff. Our standard outcome measures assess learner progress and produce a full report looking at wider impact of training using a range of tested assessment methodologies.
